The Uechi Ryu Group Workout

 

 

    The class starts with warm up and stretching exercises.  Then the technique exercises teach the student the strength and control of block, strike, and moving drills.  The Sanchin kata follows, which further develops mental, physical and spiritual focus.  A variety of two-person routines help the student learn proper application of the techniques, as well as to promote a cooperative spirit between the individual students.  The class performs together the advanced katas, which completes the regular class time. Warm down stretching exercises may follow the class period. 

The training philosophy emphasizes a step-by-step building block approach, where the beginner learns a number of skills, and improves on those skills over time.  The student's progress is shown using the belt ranking system.  As the student advances, more material is added to their training, but the basic skills learned as a beginner remain important.
